Club News 2025
Christmas Charity Raffle 2025
This is the 2nd year in which the Club has organised a Christmas raffle which supports local charities and/or good causes. This year the raffle supported Cheddar Foodbank and Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance with a 50/50 split after costs.
The result was a surplus (ticket sells minus costs) of £326, so £163 each was sent to both of the supported charities.
The draw was done by a member of the public at The Axbridge Christmas market.
Also, the Club did a collection for the Cheddar Foodbank at both of the markets held in Axbridge during December with donations totally £151 and 7 very large bags of food/supplies which were delivered to the Foodbank before Christmas.
A big thank-you to those who either bought raffle tickets or made donations.
Charity Quiz Night – October 2025
nother successful event, enjoyed by all.
To push Rotary itself and Axbridge District Rotary to a larger audience, the Club decided to try a new venue, this being St. James’ Church Hall in Winscombe – excellent facilities and parking!
Proceeds from this event were to go to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance to support their on-going duties, especially with the 2nd helicopter due anytime soon.
In the end, over £650 surplus was generated – great result.
A big thank-you must go to all who took part on the night and to those who organised and ran the event that being the membership of Axbridge District Rotary as a whole – a great team effort.
Footpath Clearance – October 2025
This month Club members carried out the annual clearance of Bailiff’s Wall public footpath in Axbridge.
This is a popular footpath running south out of the town along side the Old River Axe.
The Club has been clearing this path for 6 years, with a cut down at least once a year, sometimes two depending on growth.
Foodbank Collection – October 2025
Continuing The Club’s support for the Foodbank at Cheddar, a collection of supplies and money was made at the Axbridge Farmer’s Market.
However, due to the weather the market usually held in The Square was relocated inside to Town Hall.
This event along with a similar collection carried out at September’s market resulted in donations totally £133 and 40Kgs of food/supplies being made.
A big thank-you to all those who came to see us and donated.
President Handover – June 2025
Club members, family/friends and guests from other local Rotary Clubs joined us for an excellent Sunday Lunch at The Lamb with the handover being done afterwards.
Pictured opposite is Lesley handing over the reins to Paul. Lesley did a quick recap of the Club’s activities during her time in charge, then Paul shared some of his thoughts for the new Rotary Year.
Many thanks to Lesley for her leadership and best of luck to Paul, the Club’s membership will support you in any way it can.
A SOS Answered – April 2025
The Club immediately decided that this was something it could support and started a conversation with the Mum. At the same time, The Club through with it contacts with another local service organisation (King Alfred Lodge, W-s-M) invited them to be part of the response to the call for help. Once again, the answer was immediate and positive.
The result was that in just 3 days between the two groups over £2250 was pledged to support Mum & child. Meaning additional items could be purchased to provide and support on-going care.
The Rotary Club will continue to maintain contact with Mum/child and to look at helping in the future where possible/requested.

Charity Quiz Night – March 2025
This event was to support this year’s chosen charity of Freewheelers EVS (‘Blood Bikes’) with monies going to assist with their on-going operational costs, with it being fully funded by such donations.
This great event generated a £1300 surplus, by way of team entry, raffle & heads n’ tails. Monies which will be passed on to the charities in due course.
